RUCC Collective · Lower-cost community counselling

RUCC Collective

Lower-cost counselling with supervised graduate interns, so more people can get support. Same care and attention, at a reduced fee while they train.

What the RUCC Collective is

Every intern in the RUCC Collective is a graduate counselling student, supervised by Ruth Unaegbu, RCC-ACS. Interns get real training and mentorship, and you get caring, closely overseen counselling at a fee you can manage.

How supervision works

  • Supervised by an Approved Clinical SupervisorEvery intern's work is clinically supervised by Ruth Unaegbu, RCC-ACS.
  • Regular supervisionInterns review their work with Ruth on an ongoing basis, so your care has experienced oversight.
  • Disclosure up frontYour intern tells you at the start that they are a student counsellor, who supervises them, and what that means for your care.
  • Support when it mattersAnything involving risk or complexity is brought to Ruth right away, not left for the next meeting.

Meet our interns

Placements are time-limited, so each card shows when that intern is available and whether they are taking new clients. Read their profile to find the right fit.

Common questions

Is an intern as good as a registered counsellor?

Interns are at a different stage of their career, and as with anyone, it depends on the fit. What an intern brings is time, close attention, and an experienced supervisor reviewing the work, along with their own lived and professional experience.

What happens when a placement ends?

The ending is planned with you well ahead of time. Together you decide what comes next, whether that is finishing well, continuing with a new intern, continuing with Ruth, or a referral elsewhere.

Who sees my information?

Your intern and their clinical supervisor, Ruth. Supervision means your sessions are discussed, which is how the oversight works. This is explained in your consent form before you begin, and records are kept securely in Jane.

How do I ask for a reduced fee?

Mention it when you get in touch. Ruth will have a short, private conversation with you before you are matched. Your intern never handles fees, and asking changes nothing about how you are treated.

Can I claim sessions on my extended health plan?

Usually not. Most plans only reimburse registered clinicians, and interns are still completing their training. Check with your plan, but expect to pay the fee yourself; it is set low with that in mind.

Do interns work online?

Yes. Like the rest of the practice, RUCC Collective sessions are online by video, across British Columbia.

Are you a counselling student?
