Restoration for Black Women
For Black women who hold it together for everyone else. A place to set it down, rest, and return to yourself.
You are the one people lean on: at work, at home and in your community. You show up, you get it done, and you make it look easy. Underneath, you are tired in a way that sleep does not fix.
Many Black women were taught that strength means carrying everything without complaint. The Strong Black Woman expectation can look like resilience from the outside, while costing us our health, our rest and our sense of self. Burnout is not a personal failing. It is often a trauma response to living and working under constant systemic and racialized stress.
Counselling with me is a space where you do not have to be strong. We slow down, listen to what your body has been carrying, and make room for the parts of you that have been waiting for their turn.
What we can work on
- Burnout and exhaustion, including the kind that does not lift on weekends or vacations
- The pressure to be strong, capable and composed at all times
- Racial trauma and racialized stress at work and in everyday life
- Setting boundaries without guilt, and saying no without explaining
- Reclaiming rest as something you are allowed, not something you earn
- Reconnecting with yourself after years of putting others first
- Identity, belonging and the space between cultures
Four doorways back to yourself
My healing circle Returning to Yourself moves through four doorways. They often shape our individual work too.
Remembering
Who you were before you learned to carry everything, and what you love when no one needs anything from you.
Letting go
Setting down the roles, expectations and old stories that no longer fit.
Boundaries
Protecting your energy, time and peace, and noticing what happens in your body when you do.
Rest and space
Rest that restores you, not only rest that recovers you for the next demand.
How I work
Burnout and racialized stress live in the body, so our work is body-based as well as talk-based. I draw on Brainspotting, AEDP and Internal Family Systems (IFS), along with practical tools for nervous system regulation. Together we notice what your body has been holding and meet the parts of you that learned to keep going no matter what. Then we build small, real practices for rest and boundaries that fit your life.
From my workshops
- Returning to Yourself: A Healing Circle for Black Women (Exhale Wellness, Vancouver, 2026): a restorative circle with private reflection, a Brainspotting-informed closing and small practices for the week ahead.
- Power in Pause: Breaking Free from Burnout Culture as Black Women (Elevate Her Conference, 2025): burnout as a trauma response, the Strong Black Woman trope and its health impacts, with body mapping, IFS-informed reflection and a Pause Practice Pledge.
Healing circles and restorative retreats continue through Circle & Rest (opens in a new tab). See all workshops.
Why I do this work
As a Black woman and a first-generation Nigerian Canadian, I know this weight from the inside. I have built my practice to undo aloneness, and to offer Black women the kind of care that does not ask you to explain or shrink who you are.
